What a filter can and can’t do for your skin and hair

Hardness isn’t the problem in SydneySydney water is soft, at about 57 mg/L. The studies linking water to dry skin and eczema looked at hard water, from 76 mg/L up, and trials found softeners did not improve eczema.

Is Sydney tap water unsafe?

No. Sydney Water reports the supply meets the national guidelines, PFAS included. A filter is about taste, smell and how the water feels.

Do I need a water softener in Sydney?

Usually not. Sydney mains water is soft, at about 57 mg/L of calcium carbonate, so a whole house carbon filter is the part that makes a difference.

Will a water filter help my skin and hair?

It takes the chlorine out of every shower, and some people find their skin and hair feel less dry. Sydney water is already soft, and the research on chlorine and skin is uncertain, so we won't promise it fixes a skin condition.

Will a whole house filter remove PFAS?

Not reliably. If PFAS is on your mind, an under-sink reverse osmosis tap at the kitchen is the evidence-backed choice, and we fit that too.
