Signs Your Toilet Needs Replacing

Three reasons a toilet needs replacing, and how quickly to act on each.

Leaking At The Base

Water at the base means the seal or connector under the pan has failed, and it can soak in under your tiles. Turn off the stop tap behind the toilet and call, and we will reseal it or replace the toilet if the pan is cracked.

Cracked or broken

Cracked Pan Or Cistern

A crack in the pan or a broken cistern cannot be patched to last, so the toilet or the cistern has to be replaced. Stop using it if water is getting out, and we will quote the replacement.

Old And Keeps Failing

An old toilet that keeps running, leaking or needing new parts can cost more to keep repairing than to replace. We tell you which makes sense and quote both ways when it is a close call.

How We Replace A Toilet

Toilet installation Sydney-wide, done properly: old toilet out, new suite fitted and connected, every flush tested.

Take The Old Toilet Out

We turn off the water, drain the cistern and lift the old pan off its connector, taking care with the tiles where an older pan is set in concrete. You approve the fixed price before anything comes out.

Fit And Connect The New Suite

The new pan goes onto a new connector and is secured to the floor, the cistern is fitted, and a new stop tap and braided hose connect the water. It works the same way for a toilet you have bought yourself.

Toilet Installation FAQs

Answer:

It depends on the toilet and what is behind it: whether we supply the suite or you have bought one, the type of toilet, and whether the old pan is bolted down or set in concrete. A new connector, stop tap or hose adds to the job when the old ones need replacing. You get one fixed price before any work starts, and there is nothing to pay just for us to come and look during business hours.

Answer:

Yes, we fit toilets customers have bought. Before you buy, check whether your current toilet drains into the floor or into the wall, as that affects which toilets will fit easily, or send us a photo and we will tell you. The warranty on the toilet itself comes from the store or maker you bought it from.

Answer:

Often, yes, when the new toilet is already on site. We aim for same-day service across Sydney, but if a particular suite has to be ordered in, we book the install for when it arrives.

Answer:

Changing a toilet seat is an easy job to do yourself. Replacing the toilet means disconnecting the water supply and the waste connection, sealing a new pan connector and making sure nothing leaks, which is work for a licensed plumber. A slow leak under a new pan can soak in under the tiles before you notice it.

Answer:

Repair it when the pan and cistern are sound and only a valve, seal or connector has worn out. Replace it when the pan or cistern is cracked, the same leak keeps coming back, or parts for an old cistern are no longer made. We tell you which on the spot and quote both ways when it is a close call.

Answer:

It can, on older toilets. Pans set in concrete have to be broken out, which can crack a tile around the base, so we check how yours is fixed down before we start and tell you if there is a risk.

Answer:

Yes. A toilet in a new spot needs its own waste connection to the sewer and a cold water supply, so we look at where the drains and pipes run first, sometimes with a drain camera. You get a fixed price for the whole job before any work starts.

Answer:

Yes. We fit bidet seats and hand sprayers, and change the stop tap behind the toilet to a twin outlet so the toilet and the bidet or sprayer each have their own water connection. If your bidet seat needs power, check there is a power point near the toilet before it arrives.
