Recent Work in Surry Hills 2010
Real jobs from our own records, completed here.
Surry Hills is apartment country: the 2021 Census counts 9,666 private dwellings here and 68% of them are flats or units, with 65% rented. Unit plumbing has its own habits: common stacks that back up into the lowest floor first, in-wall cisterns that need the right access panel, and hot water units in cupboards where a leak shows up on the neighbour's ceiling. Tree roots and cracked lines come up again and again in our Surry Hills job notes. Clay sewer pipe was the Australian standard until the late 1970s, laid in short lengths with a joint at every one, and Sydney Water's own advice is blunt: roots enter small cracks in wastewater pipes to seek out nutrients. Where the ground has moved or the joints have opened we clear the line, camera it, and quote no-dig relining before it collapses. Members get a free annual home inspection, which is the cheapest way to catch a slow drain or a tired hot water system before it becomes an emergency.
The Mr Splash job bookJun 2026
Our plumber attended a Surry Hills property in June 2026 to investigate a reported gas leak. A comprehensive gas leak detection test was carried out on all accessible gas pipework, fittings, and appliances. A gas leak was detected at the union connection of the existing hot water system isolation ball valve. After re-tightening the existing union and re-monitoring with a soapy water test, no further leaks were found on the gas service at that stage.
In June 2026, our plumber attended a Surry Hills property where a tenant reported a wobbly tap. We inspected the tap.
In June 2026, a Surry Hills customer reported issues with their shower hot water. Our plumber attended and provided three options for repair. The customer approved the middle option, and we completed the work.
In June 2026, a Surry Hills customer reported a leaking dishwasher. Our plumber attended and quoted to supply and install an outlet dishwasher hose. The quote was approved, and we supplied and installed the hose, then tested and commissioned the work.
In May 2026, a Surry Hills customer reported a kitchen tap needing replacement and a slight leak under the sink. Our plumber removed a bidet and installed a customer-supplied mixer tap. We explained that the timber beneath the benchtop was rotted. We left a tightening key for future use.
In April 2026, a Surry Hills resident reported no hot water from any taps. Our plumber found water was being supplied to the hot water system. The plumber then removed the duo valve and pressure limiting valve to test them, finding the duo valve was rusted closed internally. The hot water system was reconnected with a 300mm flexible hose and nipple, and the water supply was reinstated. Hot water was then available at all hot fixtures.

Surry Hills Plumbing FAQ
Answer:
It may be. Pipes that form common property are maintained by the owners corporation, while the owner deals with property inside their own lot. Because strata schemes classify areas differently, check the strata plan or speak with the strata manager (NSW Government). Flats accounted for 68.5% of Surry Hills homes at the 2021 Census (ABS 2021 Census). For a booked drain service, we jet the blockage first and provide a free CCTV inspection afterwards.
Answer:
Tell the landlord or agent promptly, because failure of an essential hot water service is an urgent repair under NSW tenancy law (NSW Government). Renting was recorded for 65.4% of Surry Hills homes in the 2021 Census (ABS 2021 Census). If contact cannot be made or the repair is not completed, NSW guidance sets out when a renter may arrange a licensed tradesperson and seek reimbursement (NSW Government). We service all major hot water brands.
Answer:
Our licensed gas fitters can find and repair a gas leak once the area is safe. Jemena advises anyone who smells rotten eggs or cabbage to leave, avoid smoking and phone use, extinguish naked flames, and report the leak first (Jemena). When You Need a Local Bondi Plumber Who Knows Your Drainage Systems
Local Sydney suburbs each have their own quirks: Bondi's coastal corrosion, Campbelltown's clay-soil tree-root pressure, the Inner West's pre-1960 earthenware drainage systems. When you call our plumbers, we send a technician who has worked on hundreds of homes within five kilometres of yours, so they recognise the building style, the common pipe materials, and the typical fault patterns before they walk through the door.
Whether you smell gas at 2am, find a blocked toilet on Sunday morning, or notice a slow shower drain that hints at a deeper drainage systems problem, call our plumbers on 1300 677 752. We answer 24/7 and dispatch licensed technicians the same hour for true emergencies. No recorded message, no callback queue, no surcharge for after-hours work on urgent jobs.
